Fisher Heights Plaza - General Burns Park - Carleton Heights and Parkwood Hills is a community originally built on farmland for post war veterans returning to the city. It used to be far removed from the city core but is now part of mid-city Ottawa and it is bounded by Baseline Road, Meadowlands Drive, Fischer Avenue, and Merivale Road. Many of the original owners remain in their original homes and take great pride in how long they have belonged to the community. Recently, many children and grandchildren have started to move back into the area where they were raised giving the community a wide range of residents. Large, mature trees, community character, and the many individual properties give the community charm and draw for families. The community is mainly English speaking but there is a small percentage of the community that speaks non-official languages and an even smaller population who speak French.
Fisher Heights Plaza - General Burns Park - Parkwood Hills used to offer many social events such as outdoor rinks and dances, but unfortunately in recent years these opportunities have become virtually non-existent. The Community Association has recently elected a new Executive who is taking charge in bringing social events back to the community. Applications are being submitted to bring an outdoor rink, skating pond, splash pad, and greenland park space to the community. The first Annual Community Fun Day and BBQ was held in June 2014 and was a huge success with horse riding, donkey petting, face painting, fire trucks, and, of course, food. The community hopes to hold more events like this including movies in the park and a corn roast. Along with the events being planned by the Community Association the community has other recreational opportunities for residents to enjoy. There are basketball courts, sports fields, sledding hills, a baseball diamond, a tennis court, and play structures for all ages of residents to enjoy. There are many parks scattered throughout the community that give residents lots of green, open space to enjoy. There are also many restaurants and communities in the neighbourhood at which residents can enjoy a Saturday morning breakfast or a night out.
Our community is vibrant and close to a lot of amenities. The community association is always looking for ways to bring opportunities to residents into the community.
