The city of Ottawa is a beautiful and diverse place. There are over 80
neighbourhoods within city borders. But it's not easy to explain how the city is
divided up.
We spent many hours simpliflying the layout of Ottawa to help a visitor to the
city to understand the layout. In this article you will find a thorough explanation
of how to understand Ottawa's neighbourhoods.

Ottawa is bordered on the north by the incredible Ottawa River. There are many opportunities for
recreation, fishing and camping all along the river. On the other side of the Ottawa river is Quebec.
If you travel west of the Ottawa border you'll venture into the Ottawa valley. Traveling East will get you to
Montreal in under two hours. And to the south is Highway 416 which will take you to Ogdensburg NY in about an hour. Or,
if you keep traveling south to the 401, you can get to Toronto in about 4 hours.

Kanata
Many neighbourhoods, high tech businesses, plenty of parks and more.
Kanata is the home of The Canadian Tire Centre where the Ottawa Senators Play. The tech sector of Kanata
hosts many well known businesses. There is a huge shopping hub called Centrum and many parks, skating rinks, and more.
Kanata North contains the neighbourhoods of Beaverbrook, Village Green, Kanata Lakes (which was determined to be our choice for the
best place to live in Ottawa), and Morgan's Grant. In central Kanata
is Katimavik. South Kanata contains Bridlewood, Emerald Meadows and Glen Cairn

Ottawa West
A mixture of upscale and trendy along with affordable neighbourhoods.
When looking at the map of Ottawa, this area appears to be rather central. However, prior to
amalgamation, this was the western border of the city of Ottawa. Ottawa west has some trendy
neighbourhoods in it including Westboro and Central Park. There are also some more affordable
neighbourhoods such as the areas near the Bayshore Shopping Centre and Pinecrest (which is where Ikea
is located.)
