Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre-Hawthorne Park is a community in south Ottawa. The neighbourhood was almost entirely farmland until the 1950's when it was developed to create more housing for returning World War II veterans. It was part of the former city of Gloucester before becoming part of the city of Ottawa. Today the residents of the community are mainly English speaking but almost a little less than a quarter of the population speak French primarily. The community has many recreational facilities and a wide range of housing options, including single family homes, apartments, and condos. It is also adjacent to the VIA Rail station making it an excellent place for someone who has to travel frequently on the Montreal-Toronto corridor of the rail line.
